How to Use the Protected Fill-in Application Forms - BUNY, CPS, STEP and HS-1:

If you do not have Microsoft Word or a compatible word processor, or if you have a version older than Word 2000, you may have trouble using the GTSC grant applications. In that case, you may need to use the Microsoft Office Converters and Viewers that are available from Microsoft's site. For more information and to download, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?.

If you are using a Microsoft Word or compatible word processor in a version higher (newer) than Word 2003, please save your document as the lower (older) version before you email it to the GTSC.

How to Use the Protected Fill-in Application Forms - BUNY, CPS, STEP and HS-1:

When you see the document on your computer screen, the text fields where you will be typing are represented as shaded boxes. The shading does not appear when printed.
The cursor will only point to and allow changes to be typed into the text fields and check boxes. You cannot make any other changes to the document.
The font for the text fields is pre-set and cannot be changed. Font styles, tabs, margins, and other types of formatting changes are not possible.
Text fields expand as you type text into them.
The spell check does not function in protected documents.
Move the cursor to the field and begin typing, do not use the enter key to move between entry fields.
Move the cursor by using:
- the mouse to point and click to each field,
- the tab key to move the cursor to the next field, or
- the arrow keys to move the cursor.
To mark a check box, do either of the following:
- Tab to the check box and use the space bar to mark it.
- Click the check box with the mouse to mark it.
To unmark a check box, do either of the following:
- Tab to marked check box and use the space bar to unmark it.
- Click the marked check box with the mouse to unmark it.

Alternately, you can print the application and fill it in by hand or with a typewriter.

Save your work frequently. Save before you print.
